KUCHING: A delegation from the state government led by the Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan called on the Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya yesterday.
The visit was aimed to brief the latter regarding Sarawak’s business in ASEAN in the renewable energy sector.
Among the issues discussed was Sarawak’s role in fulfilling Malaysia’s commitments in the ASEAN Power Grid Agreement which was signed in 2007.
At the occasion, Sarawak’s plans for joint energy projects with ASEAN nations such as Singapore and Indonesia were also presented.
During the meeting, Awang Tengah had also requested for PM’s support so that the projects can be brought to the discussion-level between the governments of Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, chief executive officer of Sarawak Energy Group Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) advisor Datuk Naroden Majais and Deputy State Attorney General Saferi Ali.
