State detects 154 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 154 new positive Covid-19 cases today bringing the state’s tally to 13,974.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Sibu district recorded 43 cases; 23 in Kuching; 20 in Kapit; 16 for Miri; 13 for Serian; Bintulu with 13; six in Kanowit; five for Bukit Mabong; three cases each in Julau, Samarahan and Meradong;  two in Betong and one case each in Marudi, Bau, Sebauh and Song.

“From the 154 new cases reported, 22 persons showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening, while 112 cases consisted of individuals who had been ordered to undergo quarantine at quarantine centres.

“These 112 were persons identified as close contact of positive Covid-19 cases,” he said during the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.

He said of the 154 new cases reported, 84 were individuals who had contact with positive cases, 28 involved existing active clusters, 29 were other screenings at health facilities, and 13 were screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities.

Uggah said 195 new cases had recovered and been discharged today of which 78 were from Sibu Hospital; 25 from Betong Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC); 24 from Bintulu Hospital; 20 from Sarawak General Hospital; 16 from Sarikei Hospital;16 from PKRC under Kapit Hospital; 12 from Miri Hospital and four from Mukah PKRC.

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 11,215 or 80.26 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” said the deputy chief minister.
