KUCHING: The 12th State Election is expected to be held by March next year, opined a political observer Datuk Peter Minos.
He said this following the proclamation of emergency for Sarawak effective Aug 2 this year to Feb 2 next year, during which the state election cannot be held unless the emergency is lifted earlier.
“Sarawak State Election could be held by March next year. By that time, we pray and hope that Covid-19 will be gone and no longer a worry to the election process,” he said on Saturday (July 31).
With the impending state election being put on hold, he said politicians and political parties will have another eight months to prepare for the polls.
Minos said he welcomed and accepted the proclamation of the Emergency for Sarawak.
On the same note, he said it was also very worrying to see the political situation in Malaya.
“Things are not too good there. Too many politicians are dead set to grab power to be the Prime Minister.
“They disturb and harass the Prime Minister and current government so relentlessly and endlessly, this is not good in our anti-Covid war efforts and in reviving our battered economy,” he said.
