SIBU: Relief aid, including cash, has been distributed by the Sarawak government to the victims of the Kampung Hilir fire, whose homes were ravaged by flames on the evening of September 22.

Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, disclosed that the cash assistance totalled RM149,750.

She stated that immediate aid, comprising essential daily provisions, kitchen utensils, and bedding materials, was extended to each affected household through the Sibu Social Welfare Department on the second day following the inferno.

On Sunday (October 6), at the Temporary Transfer Centre (TTC) located at Dewan Surau Darul Ma’wa, Fatimah distributed pocket money, daily attire, school uniforms, and educational supplies to the children.

Furthermore, she disbursed disaster relief funds to every impacted household. Tang Kee Lee, a Sibu Social Welfare officer, was also present during the allocation.

The fire incident resulted in the destruction of 15 housing units, with two others suffering partial damage, leaving 142 residents displaced.
