KUCHING: The state government will continue bearing the allowances of all Ketua Kaum (village chiefs’) in the state.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the decision was made following a circular issued by the federal Rural Development Ministry that all matters relating to the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKP), including allowance payments.
However, the state government will facilitate the payment to all Ketua Kaum in the state in conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. JKKKP was one of the agencies to be disbanded, according to Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after chairing the first new Cabinet meeting.
