KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has revealed that a new complex under construction in Petra Jaya will serve as the state government’s administrative hub.
The facility will feature state-of-the-art security systems and function as a data centre.
“Wisma Bapa Malaysia has become a public building with unrestricted access. Therefore, the cabinet needs a new building,” Abang Johari said during a press conference following the handover ceremony of the Sarawak flag to the SUKMA Sarawak contingent at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre today (Aug 3).
Addressing rumours that the complex would also serve as his official residence, Abang Johari declined to comment on construction costs, stating, “I’ll share the cost information later. For now, we focus on SUKMA.”
The new complex is located near several other government buildings, including Wisma Pelita, Wisma Sumber Alam, Wisma Sesco, and the Sarawak State Library.
Separately, Abang Johari announced that Sarawak’s Velodrome complex will be part of the state’s development plans for the 2027 SEA Games.
“The velodrome, under the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, will be crucial for our SEA Games preparations,” he said.
Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian were also present at the press conference.
State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy State Secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee were also present.
