LAWAS: The State government has approved an allocation of RM150 million for the construction of the new Lawas Airport under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).
This was said by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan when officiating a programme to upgrade housing for the poor at Kampung Sungai Bangat here, yesterday.
Although funds for the project were approved by the previous government, the project was not listed under the development agenda of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
At the same time, Awang Tengah also announced an allocation of RM12 million for the construction of roads to Kampung Sungai Bangat via state funding through the NRDA project.
Other projects to be continued by the State government are the construction of coastal roads which was abandoned and not listed by the PH government with a total allocation of RM152 million.
“We ask the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Land and Survey Department to give more priority to this project in order to increase the potential of the areas involved.
“Infrastructure facilities for each area need to be developed in order to increase their economic potential,” he said.
During the event, he also stressed that many people are in need of assistance, which will be given serious attention by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.
He also mentioned that the Federal government will not promise any hope to the people in Sarawak as their attention is more towards the development in Peninsular Malaysia.
Therefore, the people’s undivided support towards GPS is vital in making the people’s hopes a reality.
“Only Sarawakians and Sabahans are able to change their own fates and the future of their respective states,” he said, adding that parties from Peninsular Malaysia who use Sarawakians in their political agendas are not capable of bringing change to the state.
