KUCHING: The Sarawak government has approved the action plan for the development of the Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng new building at the site located at Mile 9.5, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

In thanking the state government, Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng president Tay Boon Sin said the plan is to improve and expand the scope of the charitable institution’s services.

“With this, we also want to provide better services to the people,” he said during the presentation of Hari Raya gifts at Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng here today (Apr 16).

Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah was also present to hand over the Hari Raya goodies to the recipients.

Elaborating, Tay said that throughout the 66 years since their establishment, various welfare activities have been carried out for those in need regardless of race and religion.

“At the same time, we provide shelter for the elderly as well as other assistance such as disaster relief, education, medical care, funerals, and many others,” he said.

Despite the fact that the country’s economy is still in recovery, he said it can be seen that the community still continues to help the less fortunate.

“Therefore, I believe that the spirit of wanting to help others, especially those in need, should be continued to create a more caring society,” he said.

On the presentation of Hari Raya gifts to 99 families, Tay said it is an annual activity of the organisation to provide essential goods in the hopes it will be able to lessen the burden on the families, especially during the festive season.

Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng, located at Jalan Sekama, provides care for the elderly and the poor in the Kuching and Samarahan areas.
