LIMBANG: The state government is committed to develop areas in the state’s northern region of Limbang and Lawas.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said these two areas had been grouped as one under the Northern Regional Development Agency (NRDA).
He said a whopping RM1.5 billion had been set aside for NRDA, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, to develop infrastructure, water and electricity supply and teleco towers to name a few in the two areas.
Speaking at the 6th edition of Bedudun Festival and Buffalo Race, attended by more than 3,000 people here yesterday, Abang Johari said the government was also working on providing high-speed Internet for Limbang and Lawas areas.
Limbang Malay Association (PML) in collaboration with the Association of Buffalo Race and Breeders Limbang (PPLKL) jointly organised the festival.
“We’re now in a modern era where almost everything is related to the Internet and the world of digital. As such, I will make sure that every settlement even in the rural areas will get connected to the Internet with the approval of six teleco towers. Without Internet connection we would be left behind,” he added.
The chief minister also announced the revival of several projects that had earlier been cancelled by the federal government such as the second Limbang Bridge, which would connect Kampung Batang Air to Limbang town.
The state government would undertake to fund the projects, he added.
He also announced that the state government would subsidise the ferry service used by the Kampung Gadung folk to travel to Limbang town.
Abang Johari also had the opportunity to flag-off the last lap of the Buffalo Race.
Also present were Awang Tengah, Agriculture Assistant Minister and Bukit Kota assemblyman Abdul Rahman Ismail, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah and Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.
