SARIKEI: The Sarawak government continues its commitment on the development agenda for all Sarawakians regardless of race and religion.

One particular example is the construction of the Kai Nguong Methodist Church which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Koung Hiing revealed that the construction of the church will be implemented in phases. For the first phase, the state government has allocated a funding of RM600,000.

“I am very happy with the approval of the project through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for Meradong,” he said in his speech during the ground-breaking ceremony last Friday.

“The project means a lot to the residents, especially the Christians in the area. I hope that the facility will be utilised well when it is completed.

Ding revealed that the total cost of the construction amounted to RM3.5 million and viewed that the project is timely as the number of Christian residents in the area is growing.

He opined that the approval of the project proves that the state government is fair in fulfilling the needs of all religions in the state.

“That is why I have included the church construction in the RTP. I hope that all parties will give their full cooperation so that the project will be completed on schedule.
