KUCHING: The state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg has received praise from various quarters over a major deal involving 100 per cent acquisition of the Bakun Hydroelectric Power (Bakun HEP) from the federal government.
State Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chairman Datuk Seri Haji Fadillah Yusof congratulated Abang Johari for the efforts and success in taking over the entire equity interest of Sarawak Hidro Sdn Bhd (SHSB), the owner and operator of the Bakun HEP.
Fadillah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief, said he and Abang Johari also expressed thanks and appreciation to the federal government, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for making it possible for Sarawak to achieve its dream to become an energy hub in the region.
“The success of the deal is also a manifestation of the good and close ties between the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister.
“It also proves the concern of the federal government led by Najib over the needs, wants and inner voice of the Sarawakians,” Fadillah, who is also Works Minister, told reporters here yesterday.
Fadillah was commenting on the announcement by Abang Johari on Wednesday that the state government had reached an agreement with the Finance Ministry and the Federal Land Commissioner to acquire the entire equity interest of SHSB.
He said not only Najib was seen as always being open and sincere in helping to develop Sarawak, the latter was also the Prime Minister who had frequently visited the state and channelled huge allocation, particularly for the development of the interior and rural areas.
