SIBU: The Sarawak government will build 166 units of affordable houses known as Rumah Spektra Permata in Kemuyang, Sibu.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the first phase of the project is going to commence this May and will be completed by June next year.
“The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will be building 86 houses, while 76 units will be built by the Land Custody Development Authority (LCDA), both on land and stilts,” he said in a press conference after a walkabout to the housing project in Kemuyang yesterday.
He revealed the house consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one dining area and one living area and would be priced between RM90,000 and RM120,000 per unit.
He added for the ones which cost RM120,000, a unit will have an area of 850 square feet.
“The land size is about 10 to 12 points per lot, which will provide comfortable living space, especially for the second generations of Kampung Datu,” he said.
For Kemuyang alone, there are 813 lots, out of which 166 will be developed, while the government considers developing the rest.
“This is a new approach by the state government to develop affordable housing, and the houses will be suitable for those with household incomes not more than RM3,000,” he said.
Abang Johari said buyers will only have to pay for the house, whereas the Sarawak government will pay for the infrastructure development costs that include roads, drainage, retaining wall and electricity supply.
“If the costs of the infrastructure are to be included with the cost of the new house, then the price will be RM230,000,” he said.
Under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, the chief minister said he wants to ensure that buyers are equipped with the latest infrastructure.
“In the next two years, we are also planning to construct 2,500 units of affordable houses throughout the state, covering the rural areas,” he added.
He also revealed there will be a master plan to develop Kemuyang by constructing a direct road to the hospital area.
On another note, Abang Johari said Housing and Public Health Assistant Minister, Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, has a long-term plan for Kampung Datu.
“The development will see Kampung Datu having the same facilities like the one in Darul Hana in Kuching,” he said.
“The village will have a new beautiful landscape, and along the riverbank there will be an esplanade, including facilities for recreational and commercial purposes.”
Loans for Rumah Spektra Permata can be made through Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd.
