MIRI: The state government has through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) disbursed a grant of RM1 million for earth-filling works at the proposed Ecumenical Centre site here.
The proposed centre will be built of a 5.8 acre site at the Miri By-pass beside the Pan Borneo highway.
The cheque presentation was held on Monday by Minister of Transport Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin to the chairman of Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) Miri branch Bishop Richard Ng.
The Ecumenical Centre is a project of ACS consisting of a big function hall, conference rooms and accommodation catering to the needs of the Christian churches here.
“I hope we cherish the government’s effort because we really look after various religious groups in Sarawak,” said Lee at the ceremony.
“I hope our country will have a strong government, like Sarawak which has become a model of a multi racial and cultural society.”
This is the way forward for us in Sarawak, Lee added.
