State has 595 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 595 new positive Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Apr 25), bringing the state’s tally to 27,914.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said 199 of these cases were reported in Bukti Mabong district; Sibu (84); Bintulu (80); Kuching (39); Meradong (25); Miri (24); Kapit (23); Lundu (20); Kanowit (19); Mukah (19), Serian (16); Samarahan (15); Sarikei (10); Selangau (six); Bau (six); Julau (two); Betong (two); Lubok Antu (two); Subis (one); Sri Aman (one); Kabong (one) and Lawas (one).

The committee added that of these, 46 individuals showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 when undergoing screening while 508 individuals were those who had been given quarantine orders.

“267 cases were individuals screened in active clusters while 240 cases were individuals screened from having close contacts with Covid-19 positive cases.

“45 cases were symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities, 42 cases were individuals screened from other screenings at health facilities and one was an Import A case of individual returning from overseas,” SDMC said.

The committee also revealed that 417 new cases had recovered and were discharged.

“Of these, 108 were from Sibu Hospital and low risk quarantine centre (PKRC) Sibu, Miri Hospital and PKRC Miri (84), Sarikei Hospital and PKRC under Sarikei Hospital (68), PKRC Mukah (48), Sarawak General Hospital and PKRC Kuching (46), Kapit Hospital and PKRC under Kapit Hospital (42), PKRC Serian (nine), PKRC Betong (seven) and Sri Aman Hospital (five).

“These bring the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 21,829 or 78.20 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak,” SDMC said.

The committee added that 5,862 cases were being isolated and treated at PKRCs and hospital wards.

“595 persons under investigation PUIs) have been reported and none are awaiting laboratory results,” SDMC said.
