KUCHING: Sarawak has solidarity, harmony and strength despite its racial and cultural diversity — the best model for a multi-ethnic society to progress together.
Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah in pointing this out, said socio-culturally, geographically, linguistically, politically, economically and historically, Sarawak manifests strength in diversity.
“Other than the quality of our political and administrative leadership which are both visionary and pragmatic, Sarawakians fully understand and appreciate that our collective survival in these very competitive and challenging times, depend a lot on our diversity.
“It is the strength which gives us the courage, resources and hope for a meaningful life,” she said.
She said this in her welcoming address at the International Night Dinner in conjunction with the 13th Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) Area Conference for Southeast Asia and the Far East held at a hotel here on Tuesday evening (July 5). The dinner was graced by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Fatimah said Sarawak was taking the lead with its Sustainable Sarawak Blueprint announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg last March.
“It will guide government agencies, businesses and communities as they work towards the state’s desired environmental sustainability goals while addressing concerns related to biodiversity conservation and natural resources management, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
“This will also enable the creation of an environment enhanced with modern infrastructure in line with the country’s Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) drive.”
Also present at the dinner were the Head of State’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, the Premier’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
