KUCHING: Sarawak is now prepared to host the International Water Association’s (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said this followed the success of the state in hosting the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 here recently.
He said the BIWWEC 2024 was an essential platform for Sarawak to strengthen its leadership in sustainable water management in the region.
“I am proud to see the success of the conference, which also positioned Sarawak as a regional leader in this sector.
“The significance of this conference extends beyond just the exchange of ideas. BIWWEC 2024 has become a catalyst for Sarawak’s future in water and wastewater management in the region,” he underlined.
Julaihi said this in his text of speech read by the Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi during the BIWWEC 2024 closing ceremony held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (Oct 25).
“A keynote address by the International Water Association (IWA) executive director Prof Dr Kala Vairavamoorthy highlighting the importance of smart and resilient infrastructure to address global water scarcity aligns with Sarawak’s vision for sustainable development,” he added.
Meanwhile, the three-day conference successfully attracted 1,900 delegates and featured 60 prominent international speakers who shared innovative solutions to critical water and wastewater challenges.
Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang and other distinguished guests.
