SIBU: Ministry for Public Health, Housing and Local Government will pursue health autonomy for Sarawak as the state government knows best what needs to be done.
Its deputy minister, Michael Tiang pointed out that only the state government knows what allocation, resources, as well as manpower is needed to resolve medical issues in Sarawak.
“Taking Sibu for example, people here have been long expecting a cardiologist satellite medical unit to be set up and this can only be achieved (by obtaining our health autonomy), and to run this unit we need a lot of manpower.
“Hopefully we will get this public health autonomy from the unity government then we can set it out in the shortest time to provide this sort of services to Hospital Sibu which caters to the central region,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters during the blood donation programme organised by Grolite at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman toaday (Jan 8).
He said a total of 200 donors turned up to do their bit for charity during the one-day event.
“We really appreciate this type of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme because as we know Sibu hospital is not only for Sibu people but is taking care of the whole central region of Sarawak,” he said.
Meanwhile, Grolite Business Development Manager, Sandra Song said that Grolite will continue to have more CSR programmes that will benefit the community, especially in the town.
Also present were Grolite Group Chairman Datuk Seri Song Tiing Seng and his wife Datin Seri Cheng Hung Chuo, Sibu Hospital deputy director Dr Rachel Teng Li Chin and others.
