KAPIT: It’s safe to say that everyone who came to Kapit to celebrate the state-level birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong did so by land.

According to Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department and minister-in-charge of the birthday event Datuk John Sikie Tayai, previously, people had to take express boats from Sibu (to go to Kapit).

“This is proof that Sarawak is developing under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud,” he said.

He said this in a pre-recorded address that broadcast during the tea banquet in conjunction with state-level birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today.

Apart from that, Sikie also believed that with the completion of the roads connecting Kapit to Song and Kanowit, the residents of Kapit will experience undeniable socio-economic growth.

“This is owing to the people of Sarawak’s strong support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government over the years, which has contributed to the state’s political stability.

“It is easier for the government to plan and implement various developments that benefit the public when we all enjoy a stable political environment and its leaders are united,” he pointed out.

He further stated that the GPS government’s mandate is proved by the fact that it won 76 of the 82 seats contested in the previous state election.

Earlier, Abang Johari and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang also attended the tea banquet.

A dance performance named ‘Ngajat Pua Kumbu’ and a special video display called ‘Mahkota DiRaja’, which demonstrates the uniqueness of the Malaysian Constitutional Monarchy System, were among the highlights of the event.

In addition, guests were also entertained with song performances by local artists.
