KUCHING: Sarawak-level Youth Day Celebration 2018 will be held for three days at Sibu Indoor Stadium from November 16-18.
Various programmes and activities have been planned for the Celebration and among which are Youth Concert (Nov 17), Youth Got Talents Competition, Healthy & Fit Youth, Bigbikes and Autoshow, Bertandingan Bernopeng, Puteri Belia and Strongman Competition 2018, and Children Colouring and Drawing Competitiion.
Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak, Datuk Abdul Karin Rahman Hamzah said the Youth Day Celebration is organised to give recognition and appreciation to the contribution of the Youth to Sarawak development.
“We want to the youth closer to the government so that they understand and participate actively in the country’s development agenda.
“Beside, to give opportunityam as well as space for the youth to come up with various creativity as well as talents in various fields- entrepreneurship, arts, volunteerism, spirit of patrioticism and so on,” he said.
He said this at a press conference in conjunction with Sarawak-level Youth Day Celebration 2018 at Bangunan Baitulmakmur, yesterday.
Also being held were Milenia Youth Camp, Youth and Career Exhibition, Youth Kitchen and Sale Stall and Youth Wall Climbing.
“We will also have Youth Award Presentation 2018 for two categories i.e individual (Male and Female) and Association category.
“ For individuals, they will respectively bring home trophy and cash RM5,000, while champion for Associations category will bring back RM10,000, and the runner-up (RM7,000),” he said.
Also to be held are Youth Townhall with Chief Minister, which will be held at 2.30pm on November 18.
“It is an opportunity for youth to dialogue and interact with the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We provide this platform to gather ideas and suggestions from the youth in planning as well as carrying out youth development in Sarawak, especially in Sibu.
Abdul Karim said 300 youth representatives i.e students from institutions of higher learning, youth associations as well as local youths are targeted.
