KUCHING: Sarawak requires at least 54 fire stations to operate in response to various cases statewide.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) state director Khirudin Drahman said there are currently 34 fire stations that are operating in seven zones — six in Kuching (Zone 1), five in Samarahan (Zone 2), three in Sri Aman (Zone 3), 11 in Sibu (Zone 4), three in Bintulu (Zone 5), four in Miri (Zone 6) and two in Limbang (Zone 7).
“Another five fire stations in categories C and D will be completed by the end of this year and mid of next year.
“The department has also requested 15 additional fire stations in Category E — specially for higher risk operations — from the state government,” he said during the press conference on State Bomba Preparation in facing Southwest Monsoon at State Bomba Headquarters here today.
Khirudin added that Bomba also took into account on the enhancement of skills of its volunteers and community.
“With the additional fire stations and one Bomba Academy, members of the Bomba Volunteers and Bomba Community will be able to be trained well and be equipped with skills and knowledge of survival in their respective areas.
“With cooperation between Bomba and its community, it could speed up and handle various cases well without any delay,” he said.
