SIBU: The Federal Ministry for Women, Family and Community Development is looking into establishing more Kafe@TEEN in Sarawak.
According to its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Syukri, there are only two kafe@TEEN or one-stop centres for teenagers in Sarawak so far; one is in Sri Aman while the other one is in Long Bedian.
“We do have some associations (that offer this kind of service) but we want to have more. Through the activities organised by this one-stop centre, we can train them (teens) and equip them with skills,” she said.
She said this when met by reporters after officiating at the Advocacy Forum for Reproductive Education, Especially for Special Needs Groups from a Religious Perspective in Sarawak at a renowned hotel here today (Dec 7).
The Santubong MP said that throughout Malaysia, there were a total of 600,000 strategic partners for kafe@TEEN and the ministry hoped more woul register with the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
“I feel that Sarawak needs to add more. We need to organise programmes like this to increase awareness among the local residents to come to us (for help).
“Moreover, we encourage local residents and our schools to meet with LPPKN to establish kafe@TEEN,” she said.
Also present were LPPKN director-general Abdul Shukur Abdullah, Malaysia United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) assistant representative Tengku Aira Tengku Razif and others.
