KUCHING: There is a need to develop sports programmes to train young talents for high level performance.

In stating this, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state government envisioned high standards in sports and games as well as in facility management.

“We are very enthusiastic about this as Sarawak has all the right attributes to achieve its vision of becoming a sports powerhouse in the country.

“We want all athletes and to have access to world-class sporting facilities,” he said before officiating at the closing ceremony of Sarawak Bowling International Championship 2019 at Megalanes Bowling Centre in Emart Batu Kawah, yesterday.

“The state government through my ministry is serious in promoting sports and games because they are important for the development of our youth.”

Karim believes that “nurturing raw talents” can enhance their capabilities to pursue high performance sports.

Organised by Amateur (Tenpin) Bowling Association (ABAS), the championship saw the legendary Amleto Monacelli (who came all the way from the United States) representing the country’s Professional Bowlers’ Association.
