KUCHING: The new Normah Hospital will be equipped with the latest and most advanced medical technologies to achieve the government’s plan to make Sarawak the medical centre of Borneo.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is in line with Normah Medical Specialist Centre’s major contributors to Sarawak’s thriving medical tourism, attracting patients from beyond its borders, especially from Pontianak and Singkawang in Kalimantan.
He said the state-of-the-art hospital is being built by the edge of the river, offering patients an environment that nurtures healing and tranquillity as they receive their treatment.
“We will also make the new hospital environmentally friendly and complement it with a shopping complex and hotel so that those coming here for treatment can bring along their families.
“And this holistic ecosystem aims to provide patients and their families the comfort and convenience,” he said, adding that the new hospital will have 320 beds.
He was speaking during the 35th anniversary dinner of Normah Medical Specialist Centre at Pullman Hotel yesterday (Sept 3).
Abang Johari also noted that the new hospital will not be just a structure but a space for patients, doctors, and the community to converge – a testament to the commitment to push boundaries, embracing innovation, and serving patients with excellence.
“Sarawak’s economy has been improving tremendously. Therefore, we want to upgrade all the facilities in Normah and provide medical care to our friends from neighbouring countries.
“If it (treatment) is within affordability and we provide good services, I pray that Sarawak becomes the hub of medical care,” he said.
