KUCHING: Sarawak Police are getting ready for the 14th general election (GE14) and will not wait for the date to be announced.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato’ Amer Bin Haji Awal said his working visit to the Kuching District Police Headquarters at Simpang Tiga here yesterday was also to see the inventory preparation to face the 14th general election.
“My working visit is also to see the inventory preparation in facing the GE14 and look at the preparation of our manpower, preparation of communication assets, transport assets. This is important because early preparation will show that we will not face a lot of problems at the last minute,” he told a press conference during his working visit to Kuching District Police Headquarters at Simpang Tiga here.
It was his first visit to the Kuching District Police after taking over the post of Sarawak Police Commissioner on July 17.
Asked on the percentage of preparation of the Sarawak Police to face the 14th general election, he said, “We don’t have percentage. We look at our assets, the human resources, the transport assets. If our vehicles are damaged and we don’t report to Bukit Aman, we will not get the budget and the vehicle cannot be used.
“If the human resource is not enough, we have to inform Bukit Aman to get assistance and the same with the communication assets because in the interior the communication assets must be in tip-top condition.
“So, all these are the basic things that we need to make preparation. And if we were to wait for the date of the election, which we do not know when, we are afraid, when it is announced later on, we will be in a situation where we are not ready. So, it will give us more headaches,” he said, adding that he does not like to do things in the last minute.
