KUCHING: The Sarawak State Health Department is ready to face any possible surge in COVID-19 cases.
Its director Dr Ooi Choo Huck said there was a possibility of an increase in COVID-19 in Sarawak following the announcement of the relaxation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) effective May 1, and also the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
“(Our readiness) include increasing higher COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Sarawak for all target groups and administer the second COVID-19 booster dose to high-risk individuals.
“Secondly, to provide COVID-19 antiviral drugs that have been placed in hospitals and health clinics.
“Thirdly, to ensure that there is an adequate number of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, together with the Median Hospital that has been set up at Sibu Hospital.
“And fourthly, to maintain a high test capacity in government and private laboratories as well as the use of rapid test kits as COVID-19 detection tests,” he said in a statement yesterday (April 29).
Dr Ooi said his department would also continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation both in and outside the country.
“And we are committed to improving the preparedness of health services to face any possibility of a surge in COVID-19 cases,” he assured.
