State recorded 135 new positive cases today

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 135 new positive Covid-19 cases today bringing the state’s tally to 6,006.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said 83 of these cases were recorded in Sibu, Bintulu (19), Miri (9), Dalat (6), Julau (5), Kuching (3), Betong (3), Lundu (2), Kapit (2), Beluru (1), Serian (1), and Kanowit (1).

He said the 83 cases in Sibu district consisted of 56 individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) of contacts of positive cases, 20 other screenings at health centres, three screenings by symptomatic individuals at health centres, three involving health workers in Sibu District (categorised as local infections), and one involving the Pasai Cluster.

“For the 19 cases reported in Bintulu district, ten involved the Rakut Cluster, eight were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases, and one was a symptomatic individual screened at a health centre,” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.

He said the nine cases in Miri district comprised seven individuals screened via ACD of contacts of positive cases and two cases involving the Seruas Cluster.

“The six cases recorded in Dalat district were individuals screened through ACD at a locality under the enhanced movement control order,” he said.

He said the five cases in Julau district and the three cases in Betong district were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.

He said two of the three cases in Kuching were locals who had returned from Selangor (both categorised as Import B), while the other case was an individual screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said the two cases in Kapit district consisted of one case involving the Pasai Cluster and another case screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.

“The two cases recorded in Lundu district involved the Pasai Cluster,” he said.

He said the single case in Kanowit district was an individual screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases, while the single case in Serian district was an individual who underwent a pre-operation screening at a health facility in the district.

“The one case reported in Beluru district was an individual screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases. The case was categorised as an Import C case, infected from Miri district,” he said.

He said 125 cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals today comprising 69 from Sibu Hospital, 22 from Kapit Hospital, 14 from Miri Hospital, 10 from Bintulu Hospital, nine from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and one from Sarikei Hospital.

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 4,101 or 68.28 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” he said.

As of today, there were 1,827 individuals still being isolated and undergoing treatment at hospitals and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) in the state, namely 907 in Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital (372), Kapit Hospital (187), Bintulu Hospital (170), SGH (161), Sarikei Hospital (28), Limbang Hospital (1), and Lawas Hospital (1).

Uggah said 171 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and 19 PUIs were still pending laboratory results.

A total of 15 active clusters still remained in Sarawak as of today.
