KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 219 new positive cases today, bringing the total to 5,676 cases.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said two new deaths were also recorded, bringing the total to 50.
The new cases were in Sibu (55), Song (50), Beluru (35), Miri (32), Kapit (25), Samarahan (5), Kanowit (5), Bintulu (4), Bukit Mabong (3), with Betong, Kuching, Lundu, Saratok and Subis recording one case each.
One case in Sibu — from the Pasai Cluster — had contact with 34 individuals who had been screened. Fourteen individuals had symptoms when screened at health facilities and five including a health worker were screened individually.
In Song, 43 cases were from the Pasai Cluster while another seven were individuals in close contact with active cases.
In Beluru, 34 affected individuals were from the Seruas Cluster and one from the Pasai Cluster.
There were 24 individuals who had close contact with active cases in Miri. Three more from the Rakut Cluster were recorded; two were health workers in the district, and another two had individual screenings with one individual from the Jelita Cluster.
In Kapit district, 21 cases were from the Pasai Cluster while four were in close contact with active cases.
In Kanowit, five individuals had close contact with active cases and in Samarahan, five individuals had close contact with active cases.
In Bintulu, there were two individuals from the Rakut Cluster — one had symptoms when screened at a health facility while one was found during active case detection in Sungai Plan.
In Mabong district, there were three cases from Pasai Cluster while Kuching had one from the Indah Riang Cluster.
Lundu and Subis districts recorded only one case each and both cases were from the Pasai Cluster.
Both Betong and Saratok districts recorded only one case each.
A total of 134 new cases had recovered and were discharged today from Sibu Hospital (79), Miri Hospital (24), Hospital Bintulu (11), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (9), Sarawak General Hospital (6), PKRC under Limbang Hospital (4) and PKRC Sipitang, Sabah (1).
This brought the total number of positive cases that had recovered or had been discharged to 3,734 or 65.79 percent of the total.
The number of active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated in PKRC and hospital wards according to the referral hospital was 1,874 in Sibu Hospital (945), Miri Hospital (376), Sarawak General Hospital (175), Kapit Hospital and at PKRC Kapit (198), Bintulu Hospital (160), Sarikei Hospital (19) and 1 case at Limbang Hospital (PKRC Limbang).
A total of 249 new persons under investigation (PUI) were recorded while 36 PUIs were waiting for their lab results.
