KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 235 new Covid-19 cases and one fatality yesterday (July 12).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said that 10 cases involved detainees at the Miri Central Prison, four immigration detainees in Kuching and one detainee at the Sri Aman Prison.
Of the total, Kuching accounted for 88 new cases; Lundu 26; Miri 22; Sibu 20; Saratok 11 and Sarikei nine.
Seven cases each were recorded in Bintulu and Selangau respectively while Samarahan, Subis and Dalat recorded six cases each.
Meanwhile, five cases were recorded in Bau and three cases each in Mukah, Sri Aman, Serian and Telang Usan.
There were two new cases in Kapit and Kanowit while Meradong, Limbang, Tatau, Song, Matu and Beluru had one new case each.
The SDMC said 142 cases were individuals who had close contacts with Covid-19 positive cases, 44 were individuals from active clusters, 19 were from the screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities, 29 from other screenings at health facilities while one Import B case was of an individual returning from other states in Malaysia, namely, Labuan.
Meanwhile, the sole fatality reported involved a 59-year-old local woman from the Sri Aman district who was confirmed Covid-19 positive on July 4.
She had high blood pressure and diabetes and her body was brought to the Sri Aman Hospital.
The SDMC said there were 611 new recoveries and discharges from hospitals and low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs) statewide.
One hundred and ninety-three were from the Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC; 119 from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC; 113 from the Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC; 61 from the Sibu Hospital and its PKRC; 58 from the Miri Hospital and its PKRC; 28 from PKRC Serian and 14 from the Kapit Hospital and its PKRC.
Besides that, nine were from PKRC Mukah; eight from PKRC Betong; seven from Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC Sri Aman and one from PKRC Lawas.
These bring the total number of recovered and discharged cases so far to 59,546 or 86.17 percent.
There are 8,964 individuals still undergoing treatment at PKRC and isolation wards in the state.
