State records 2,967 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 2,967 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Sept 29), pushing the state’s tally to 207,137 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the new cases reported, 2,954 or 99.56 percent were in Category 1 and 2 while 13 cases or 0.44 percent were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Category 1 (no symptoms) recorded 736 or 24.81 percent while 2,218 or 74.76 percent were in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

There were six cases or 0.20 percent reported in Category 3 (lung infections), two (0.07 percent) in Category 4 (lung infections and requires oxygen) and five (0.17 percent) in Category 5 (lung infections and requires ventilator).

Kuching district accounted for 759 of the new cases; Miri (307); Sibu (295); 198 each in Serian and Bau; Betong (166); Bintulu (131); Sri Aman (127); Samarahan (83); Sarikei (71); Saratok (63); Limbang (59); Pusa (55); 50 each in Mukah and Belaga; Kapit (42); 35 each in Lundu and Meradong; Lawas (33); 18 each in Subis, Asajaya, Matu and Tatau; Tebedu (17); 16 each in Simunjan and Lubok Antu; Marudi (14); Sebauh (13); Daro (12);  Beluru (11); Selangau (10).

There were six cases reported in Pakan and Telang Usan respectively; five each in Julau and Kanowit; Bukit Mabong (four); Song (two) and Dalat (one).

The committee also announced the emergence of a new cluster dubbed Giam Cluster in Kuching district.

“It is a community cluster detected involving residents in a village on Jalan Puncak Borneo, Kuching. A total of 147 individuals were confirmed positive including the case index.

“All of the positive cases are admitted to Sarawak General Hospital, low-risk quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC) and Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in Kuching district,” it said.

The committee added that the Dijih Cluster in Selangau district has ended after no new case was detected or reported in the past 28 days involving the cluster.
