State records 596 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 596 new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative total of cases to 299,585 in the state.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement disclosed that 222 cases were in category 1 (no symptoms); 369 in category 2 (mild symptoms), one each in category 3 (lung infections) and category 4 (lung infections and require oxygen) and three in category 5 (lung infections and require ventilator).

“Of the total, Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 222 followed by Miri (95); Sibu (43); Bintulu (37); Samarahan (25); Bau (22); 20 each in Serian and Sarikei; 10 each in Sri Aman and Mukah.

“Nine cases were recorded in Lundu, Pakan and Simunjan; Asajaya (eight); seven each in Daro and Tanjung Manis; Limbang (six); Betong (five); four each in Marudi, Saratok, Pusa, Dalat and Kanowit; three each in Lawas, Kabong, Tebedu and Lubok Antu; two each in Tatau and Julau,” it said.

The committee added that one case was recorded in Belaga, Subis, Matu, Meradong, Sebauh and Beluru respectively.

Separately, the committee disclosed that one COVID-19 death was reported in Limbang.

“The victim was a 83-year-old woman in Limbang Hospital who had comorbid of diabetes and dispidemia,” it said.

There were no new COVID-19 cluster reported,. So far, Sarawak has seven active clusters.
