KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 60 new positive Covid-19 cases today, breaking its four-day streak of seeing daily cases in triple digits.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said 43 of these cases were recorded in Sibu, Miri (10), Kuching (five), and Kanowit (two).
“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Sarawak thus far to 1,980,” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.
He said of the 43 cases in Sibu District, 41 involved the Pasai Cluster while two were detected through self-screenings at a private health facility, categorised as local infections.
“For the ten cases in Miri District, five were symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities, three were contacts of a positive case involving the Pasai Cluster, one was a contact of a positive case involving the Jelita Cluster, and the other a Sabahan individual coming from Sabah to work.”
He said the five cases in Kuching District consisted of two cases screened through active case detection (ACD) involving the Pasai Cluster, two were symptomatic individuals screened at a private medical facility, and one involved the Stutong Cluster.
“The two cases in Kanowit District were screened as they had contact with a positive case involving the Pasai Cluster,” he added.
Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said Kanowit District changed from green to yellow status after two new local infection cases were recorded there on Friday.
On the other hand, Meradong District changed from yellow to green as no cases were reported in the last 14 days.
“Six patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals – three from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), two from Miri Hospital, and one from Sibu Hospital,” he said, adding that this brought the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 1,137 or 57.42 percent of the state’s total cases.
The total number of cases still receiving treatment at hospital isolation wards is 822 – 494 in Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital (193), SGH (100), and Bintulu Hospital (35).
“Two Covid-19 cases are undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Miri Hospital; both cases are in stable condition,” said Uggah.
He said 141 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported on Friday and 43 PUIs were still awaiting laboratory results.
As of Friday, there were still seven active clusters in Sarawak, namely the Bukit Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh; Jelita Cluster and Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri; Pasai Cluster in Sibu; Keranji Tabuan Cluster and Stutong Cluster in Kuching; and Mador Cluster in Meradong.
