KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 654 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (May 31), bringing the state’s tally to 47,329 since the first case was detected on March 13 last year.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 405 or 61.93 percent of the new cases were detected in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.
“Kuching reported 219 cases, followed by Sibu (102), Miri (84), Bintulu (54), Samarahan (33), Tanjung Manis (27), 17 each in Kapit and Lubok Antu, Betong (15), Mukah (13), Sri Aman (10), nine each in Bau and Asajaya, seven each in Subis, Lundu and Meradong, Serian (five), three each in Julau and Tatau, two each in Bukit Mabong, Kanowit, Sarikei, Dalat and Pakan and one each in Beluru, Saratok and Selangau,” said SDMC on Monday (May 31).
Of the 654 new cases reported, 51 people had shown signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.
“Meanwhile, a total of 533 people have been given quarantine orders.
“These cases consist of 446 screening of individuals who are close contacts of positive cases, 84 individual screenings in existing active clusters, 84 other screenings in health facilities, 37 screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, two cases involving individuals returning from other states in Malaysia and one case involving an individual returning from Ivory Coast,” it said.
SDMC added that 473 Covid-19 patients have recovered and were allowed to be discharged today.
“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases that have recovered or allowed to be discharged to 38,963 or 82.32 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.
“The number of active cases that are still receiving treatment and isolated in low-risk treatment centres and hospital wards is 7,965,” it said.
