KUCHING: Sarawak yesterday (June 20) recorded 661 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths.

This brings the cumulative total number of cases to 59,800 and the death toll to 380.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 389 or 58.85 percent of the total cases were detected in five districts, namely in Sibu, Kuching, Bintulu, Subis and Miri.

It said Sibu recorded the most cases with 134, followed by Kuching with 88 cases, Bintulu (72), Subis (52), Miri (43).

“Meanwhile, the districts of Mukah and Sri Aman each recorded 31 cases, Julau (29), Tatau (26), Samarahan (23), Kapit (20), Bau (19), Serian (15), Meradong (14), Sarikei (12), Song (10), Selangau (nine), Kanowit (eight), Simunjan (five), Sebauh (five), Lundu (three), Pusa (three), Asajaya (two), Bukit Mabong (two), and one each in Telang Usan, Tebedu, Tanjung Manis, Saratok and Dalat,” it said in its daily Covid-19 update yesterday.

The SDMC said 553 of those who tested positive had been given quarantine orders.

On the death cases, the committee said one of the victims was a 47-year-old woman from Marudi.

“She was treated at the Miri Hospital after testing positive on June 11. She had a history of diabetes,” it added.

The SDMC said the other death case involved a 38-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19 on June 7.

“She was treated at the Sibu Hospital and had high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity,” it said.
