KUCHING: Eight new positive cases were recorded in the state on Saturday (Oct 24), bringing the cumulative total to 780.
According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), all eight are locally transmitted cases.
The first case is a local woman who is a close contact to cases 752 and 759 who were confirmed positive cases on Oct 12 and 15 respectively.
“Case 773 had visited Case 752 while she was quarantined at home. The first test was done on Oct 13 and it proved negative on Oct 14.
“The case underwent a second test on Oct 22 and was found positive on Oct 23,” it said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 24).
For cases 774, 775, and 776, the committee said all are close contacts of Case 768 which was confirmed positive on Oct 18.
“These three new cases were detected through a second screening on Oct 23. They also had close contacts with Case 770 who was infected by Case 768.
“Case 774 is a worker at a government health facility in the city; Case 775 is a local woman who works as a cleaner at a shopping mall in Kuching, and Case 776 is a local woman working as a cook at a government health facility in Kuching.
“All have been admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).”
SDMC said both cases 777 and 778 are close contacts with Case 771 which was reported on Oct 23.
“These cases underwent self-screening at a private health facility in Kuching on Oct 23 after Case 771 was found to be positive.
Case 777 is local woman trader at a construction site at Jalan Song which is near Sarawak Blessed Church, Batu Kawa Emart, Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong Shell station, Yongkong Hardware, 4 1/2 Mile Carwash; Bako Kaya recycling centre, and Royal Richmond Gold Condominium.
Individuals who have purchased cakes from Cases 771 and 777 in the past two weeks are advised to undergo Covid-19 screening.
Case 778 is a local woman who is a student in China. The she has been in Sarawak since Jan 13.
SDMC also said that Case 779 is a local housewife who was detected during screening at a private hospital as she was about to undergo a caesarean section.
As for Case 780, SDMC said the local man is a plumber in Kuching.
“He has no history of leaving the country or in contact with high risk areas and Covid-19 positive cases.
“The case is still under investigation to determine the true cause of the infection. Close contact tracing and further investigations are underway,” the statement added.
