KUCHING: Sarawak registered a decline in its road accident death rate, recording 293 death cases from Jan 1 to Nov 25 this year.
State Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the figure is less compared with last year’s tally of 354 death cases recorded statewide in the same period.
Last year, motorcyclist who died in road accidents numbered 172 cases (48.6 pct). For this year, 146 motorcyclists (49.8 pct) died in road accidents, the highest deaths recorded.
He said the department recorded 14,329 road accident cases from Jan 1 to Nov 25 this year.
“When compared with last year’s figure of 19,261 cases, there is a decrease of 4,932 cases (-25.6 pct) this year,” he said.
Alexson explained that for fatal accidents, 271 cases have been recorded from Jan 1 to Nov 25 this year.
It showed a decrease of 57 cases compared with last year’s figure of 328 fatal accident cases recorded in the same period.
