State records more COVID cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 670 COVID-19 cases during the 36th epidemiology (epid) week (September 4 to 11) compared to 619 cases during the 35th epidemiology week (August 28 to September 3).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its weekly COVID-19 update, said that with the new cases, the cumulative COVID-19 cases in the state until yesterday were 313,821.

It added that during the 36th epid week, 648 cases out of the 267 cases were in categories one and two, while 22 cases were in categories three, four, and five.

The committee said in the same period, Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 234, followed by Sibu (105), Miri (101), Bintulu (65), Samarahan (28), Serian (20), Bau (14), Mukah (13), Betong (11) and Dalat (11).

Nine cases were reported in Sarikei, eight in Sri Aman, five in Limbang, four each in Meradong, Asajaya, Kapit, Subis and Simunjan, three each in Pakan and Lubok Anto, two each in Daro, Marudi, Kanowit, Beluru, Selangau and Telang Usan and one case each in Lawas, Julau, Saratok, Lundu, Song, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu and Pusa.

As during the 35th epid week, SDMC said out 594 out of the 619 cases were in category one, while 25 cases were in categories three, four, and five.

It added during the same period, Kuching recorded with 194 cases, followed by Miri (110), Sibu (83), Bintulu (74), Samarahan (24), Sarikei (22), Serian (15), with Bau and Dalat both recorded 13 cases

Eight cases were reported in Mukah, six in Meradong, five each reported in Sri Aman and Betong, four each in Tatau and Daro, three each in Matu, Lawas, Julau, Marudi and Saratok, two each in Limbang, Asajaya, Lundu, Lubok Antu, Kapit, Subis, Kanowit, Belaga and one case each in Pakan, Simunjan, Beluru, Kabong, Selangau, Song, Tanjung Manis and Tebedu.

Meanwhile, two COVID-19 deaths were reported in Kuching and four deaths in Bintulu during the 35th epid week, while no COVID-19 deaths were reported during the 36th epid week.
