KUCHING: Sarawak recorded six new Covid-19 fatalities today (May 25), bringing the state’s death toll to 261.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said two deaths were reported in Miri, two in Kuching, one in Sibu and one in Sri Aman.
SDMC said the 256th death involved a 41-year-old local man who was discovered unconscious on May 21 at home by a family member and taken to Miri Hospital by a medical team.
He was found positive of Covid-19 and declared dead on the same day (May 21) at Miri Hospital. The case had no history of comorbidity.
The 257th death was a 69-year-old local man who sought treatment at Miri Hospital due to diarrhoea, vomiting and fever.
A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test was done on May 4 and returned positive. The case involved the Jalan Limbang Cluster and was infected while at a mosque.
He was declared dead on May 24 and had diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.
The 258th death case involved a 79-year-old man who was confirmed positive for Covid-19 through a symptomatic screening test on May 18. He had received treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
His health condition deteriorated and he was declared dead on May 24. He had high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia and chronic kidney disease.
The 259th death case was an 81-year-old local man who had suffered from shortness of breath.
The case was confirmed positive through symptomatic screening tests on May 20.
His health condition deteriorated and died on May 24. He had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and high blood pressure.
The 260th death case was a 74-year-old local man who was confirmed positive through an rT-PCR swab test on May 5 and had sought treatment at Sibu Hospital. The case involved the Emperan Cluster.
He began to experience symptoms of vomiting and loss of appetite while in the hospital. His health condition deteriorated and died on May 24.
The 261th death case involved an 80-year-old woman who had been treated at Sri Aman Hospital for coughing, breathing difficulties and loss of appetite.
Her test via the antigen rapid test kit on May 22 was found positive for Covid-19 and was referred to Sarawak General Hospital.
The health condition worsens and she was declared dead on May 25. The case had high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidaemia.
SDMC extends its condolences to the family members of the victims.
