KUCHING: New Covid-19 cases in Sarawak have dropped slightly to 1,745 compared to the previous 1,963, bringing the total to 275,850.
In the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) daily update on Friday (March 11), Categories 1 and 2 had 1,723 cases while Categories 3, 4 and 5 recorded 22.
Of the total, Category 1 had 726, Category 2 recorded the most with 961 cases, only one in Category 3, 18 in Category 4 and three in Category 5.
“Kuching again topped the list with 776 cases followed by Miri with 197, Sibu (170), Bintulu (100), Serian (84) and Samarahan (62).
“Bau had 43, Sarikei (42), Kanowit (24), Sri Aman (23), Betong (20), Matu and Limbang each with 19 cases, Mukah with 18, Meradong with 15, and Kabong, Saratok and Simunjan each with 13 cases,” it said.
Both Daro and Marudi each recorded 11 cases, Lawas 10 cases, nine in Dalat, seven each in Pusa and Lundu, six cases each in Subis and Asajaya and five cases in Kapit.
Telang Usan and Pakan each recorded four cases, three in Lubok Antu, two cases each in Beluru, Tatau, Selangau, Song and Tebedu, and only one case was recorded in Sebauh.
“There were two fatalities which occurred on March 9 and both victims were elderly persons who had comorbidities.
“In Sibu, an 89-year-old woman passed away at Sibu Hospital and she had a background of high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, heart disease and chronic lung disease.
“Another woman, aged 78, passed away at Limbang Hospital and had high blood pressure and dyslipidemia,” said SDMC.
The committee also declared one cluster namely the Jalan Batu Kaya cluster in Lubok Antu, at an institution under the Ministry of Education involving boarding students in the district.
The index case is a 17-year-old student who tested positive for Covid-19 through a symptomatic screening test using the RTK-Antigen test kit on March 8.
SDMC said the infection was believed to have been contracted through socialisation and close contact among boarding school students.
“Of 79 people tested, 28 were found positive for the virus including the index case, while 51 tested negative. All of them are currently undergoing quarantine,” it said.
In addition, there were new cases from the DTI Semuja 3 cluster in Serian involving 48 cases.
