KUCHING: Sarawak again recorded two Covid-19 related deaths on Friday (Aug 13), bringing the death toll to 479 cases to date.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 478th death case was an elderly man from Kuching who had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia and stroke.
The case was tested positive for Covid-19 on July 17. The body of the 85-year-old man was been brought to Sarawak General Hospital, it said.
The 479th death case involved a 61-year-old man from Serian where he was tested positive for the virus on August 8. He passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the state recorded 715 new cases, a drop from the record high 1,216 cases recorded the previous day. This brings the total number of positive cases to 85,318.
Kuching accounted for 291 of the new cases, followed by Serian (184), Samarahan (36), Simunjan (29), Tebedu (26), Bintulu (23), Bau (22) and Lundu (12).
Sibu and Mukah recorded 10 cases each, while Miri, Asajaya, Tatau and Selangau recorded nine cases each.
Betong recorded eight cases, Pusa (seven), Lawas (six), Sebauh (five) Kanowit (four), Belaga and Lubuk Antu recorded two cases each while Dalat and Telang Usan recorded one case respectively.
There were 794 new recoveries and discharge from hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk centres (PKRC).
“The cumulative number of recovered and discharged cases stands at 76,590 (89.77 percent), however, there are still 8,067 active cases,” SDMC said.
