State reports slight increase in COVID-19 cases

KUCHING: With the Gawai Dayak celebration just round the corner, Sarawak recorded a slight increase in COVID-19 cases.

This could be seen through the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) weekly COVID-19 update – 304 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Sarawak during the 21st Epidemiology (Epid) Week between May 23 and 29.

This was a marginal increase of nine cases compared to 295 cases detected in the previous Epid Week.

The committee said 296 of the cases were in categories 1 and 2, while eight cases were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

“Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 119, followed by Miri (37), Sibu (53), Bintulu (21), Samarahan (13) and Serian (12).

Apart from that, one COVID-19-related death was also reported in Miri during the same period.
