KUCHING: Kuching district is now a yellow zone.

Sarawak recorded three new positive Covid-19 cases today — two in Kuching and one in Lubok Antu, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,090.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Case 1,089 was a local man who underwent reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) screening at a private hospital in Kuching on Dec 19. He wanted to accompany his wife who was going to give birth, and his result came back positive for the virus on the same day. This case was categorised as a local infection.

Case 1,090 was a Swedish man who underwent Covid-19 screening after returning from abroad.

“The case underwent the first rT-PCR result screening on arrival but the result was negative. He took the second screening on Dec 19 and the result came back positive on the same day.

This case had been categorised as an imported case, said SDMC in a statement.

Both cases did not show any signs and symptoms. They had been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Case 1,088 was an Indonesian woman.

SDMC said that based on initial investigations, the case was apprehended at Engsawang at the border. She was believed to have entered Sarawak illegally through a rat trail at Tebedu on Nov 30.

“Case 1,088 has a travel history in Sarawak. She travelled to Mukah and Sibu before arriving at Lubok Antu on Dec 17 before she was arrested at the border.

“The case underwent a Covid-19 screening on Dec 18 and the results returned positive on Dec 19,” it said.

SDMC added that prior to this, the case had no history of Covid-19 screening and did not show any signs or symptoms of the virus infection.

She had been admitted to the isolation ward at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment and the case had also been categorised as an imported case.

Four new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported with one awaiting a lab test result.

Kuching, Serian and Sibu districts remained yellow; two locally transmitted cases were reported in Sibu and one each in Kuching and one in Serian in the last 14 days.

This brings the total number of yellow districts to three while 37 other districts in Sarawak remain green.
