KUCHING: A RM25 million flood prevention wall project which was suspended will now go ahead in the interest of the residents of Kampung Muara Tebas

Santubong MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the initial plan also covered several locations that were to be converted into recreational places as well as sales premises for local traders.

“I am quite confident Plan B of the project will be able to start tendering in September this year.

“So the engineers will have to work a little harder before September because I want the project to commence as soon as possible,” he said.

With the wall, flooding can be overcome and the banks of the Muara Tebas River can be beautified, added Wan Junaidi when met by reporters at the Kampung Muara Tebas hall, on Saturday.

He stressed that the project was not an easy one taking into account its length of about one kilometre and a height of nine feet.

The original cost of the project is being maintained at RM25 million, he added.

The project was suspended in 2018 after a change of government by Pakatan Harapan (PH) on the grounds that there was no plan, no consultant appointment and no financial resources.
