SIBU: The Sarawak government will continue to provide strong support and commitment to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) especially in organising the National Final of Malaysia Techlympics 2024 final, scheduled for November 17 to 18.
Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the programme was a government initiative through MEITD, in collaboration with MOSTI, Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia, and other respective departments.
“The Sarawak government is pleased to be chosen as the host for the premier Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) event.
“The involvement of the Sarawak Government in supporting the implementation of Malaysia Techlympics 2024 for the Sarawak Zone reflects its commitment to fostering STI culture among the local community,” he said when addressing the launch of Malaysia Techlympics 2024 Sarawak Zone at Sibu Indoor Stadium here yesterday (Oct 18).
According to Sagah, one of the main goals of the programme is to promote technology and innovation among Sarawakians, especially among students and youth.
He said the Sarawak government sees the programme as an excellent platform to showcase and introduce new technologies and innovations, and to spark the interest of the local community, particularly students and youth in the field of technology.
In addition, he said, Malaysia Techlympics 2024 serves as a competition grounded in STI’s agenda, designed to help participants learn and apply the latest technology through hands-on innovative projects such as robotics, drones, coding and more.
“I encourage the youth in Sarawak to take full advantage of the initiatives provided by the government through MOSTI, particularly in driving various programmes and activities, creating a comprehensive culture of STI, and fostering greater awareness and engagement in this field,” he said.
Sagah, who is also Tarat assemblyman asserted he was pleased to note that Sarawak has achieved an impressive turnout with a total of 1,161 participants this year.
“Today, we are witnessing the success of 718 young Sarawakians who have advanced to the Sarawak Zone level to compete for a spot in the National Grand final.
“I hope that with the participation of these young Sarawakians, they will contribute to the largest representation in Malaysia Techlympics 2024,” he said.
He also urged teachers to stay active in STI-related activities and continue to support the Malaysia Techlympics through outreach programmes and online competition, which will run until mid -November.
Sagah also extended his deepest appreciation to MOSTI, MOE, MEITD, and the stakeholders, including representatives from the State government departments, and agencies, for their direct and indirect support in making the programme a success.
Among those present were MOSTI deputy secretary-general, Ruziah Shafei and University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) vice chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.
