MIRI: Sarawak will study Putrajaya’s proposal to emulate Iceland’s policy of imposing a curfew on those under 18 years old to prevent them from getting involved in negative activities.

Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the state needs to study the proposal comprehensively, especially the mechanisms involved.

“We have not heard of any details on the matter yet from Putrajaya…the implementation must be made comprehensively with the right methods and mechanisms to ensure the success of the policy,” said Fatimah when met at the “Sejambak Kasih” programme held here, yesterday.

On problems related to drugs, she said the federal government should go to the grassroots to know the issues.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail recently said Putrajaya was keen to emulate Iceland’s policy on teenage curfew.

Yesterday’s “Sejambak Kasih” programme held in conjunction with the forthcoming Chinese New Year celebration was jointly organised by the Miri Welfare Department and Dynasty Hotel.
