KUCHING: Sarawak will work together with engineering consultants on the construction of proper roads and bridges, says Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.
“Of course, we will not sweep things under the carpet. We will be relooking at the designs of all roads that had been built but affected by landslides.
“It is because of heavy rain. It is also the design fault by the engineers. We are humans. We make mistakes,” he told reporters after attending a dialogue session with Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia here.
“Not only our side has to relook at the design but also the engineers must be more serious on the designs of infrastructures such as bridges, roads as it could cause a fatal accident,” he added.
Masing said the Chief Minister agreed to work together with engineers and propose a proper design for roads and bridges.
“The Chief Minister takes this issue very seriously and we need people to go into the interior so that we can have better roads and bridges.”
This comes after the Pakan-Entabai road in Bintangor district in the central region collapsed due to severe soil erosion on Sunday.
