SANTUBONG: With the relaxation of domestic flights coming into the state starting Sept 1, it is hoped that Sarawak’s tourism sector would get a much-needed boost.

Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this during his visit to the site of the Santubong Archaeological Park in Sungai Jaong, Bongkissam/Bukit Maras and Wallace Centre on Tuesday (Sept 1).

The three projects is expected to be completed and open to the public next February.

“As we all know, our Sarawak Museum and its campus are expected to be completed and open in April next year.

“If our museum is ready at the same time with this park, then it would be better, and could help to boost local tourism.”

Abdul Karim also noted that with the boost in local tourism, he hoped it could help folk from Santubong, especially in the food and beverages industry, and accommodation.

“I believe it can benefit the locals here, especially its location and local craft/souvenir industry.

“Now, all we can do is wait for the progress and completion of these projects as  they were put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”
