KUCHING: The Sarawak government has agreed to implement the recovery movement control order (RMCO) but will first study and further enhance the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to suit the local conditions.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said public assemblies were now allowed effective June 10.
“Not more than 100 people will be allowed and they are required to comply with the standard operating procedures such as social distancing, wearing of face masks and high personal hygiene standards,” he said during the daily Covid-19 press conference at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building on Tuesday (June 9).
Uggah added certain activities were allowed during the RMCO but they would only take effect on June 17.
“Why not tomorrow? This is because we feel we need a few days to improve the SOPs to suit our conditions and we will announce the time and date of operation as we move on,” he said.
Among the activities that would be allowed, he said, were inter-district travel, morning and night markets, domestic travel in the country, Hari Raya Haji celebration and Korban, self-service laundries, pond fishing, cycling or convoy, non-physical contact sports such as badminton and bowling, meetings and workshops.
“Businesses will operate as usual and must adhere to the SOPs set,” he pointed out.
Uggah added activities that were still not allowed in the state were pubs, night clubs, reflexology centres, karaoke centres, theme parks, kenduri, open house, sports involving physical contact, swimming, rugby, football, hockey, travelling overseas, large gatherings.
The country’s borders were still closed, he said.
