KUCHING: Sarawak recorded another Covid-19 fatality yesterday, bringing the total death cases in the state to 13.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) revealed that the 13th case is a 23-year-old female student of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) who lived in Kota Samarahan.
Both her parents were also tested positive for Covid-19.
“The victim was having difficulty in breathing on March 30 and was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on the same day before she passed away at 9.42am yesterday,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the state recorded six new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 312 since the first case was reported on March 13.
Of the six cases, five are being treated at SGH while the other at Bintulu Hospital.
SDMC also reported 141 new cases of Person Under Investigation (PUI) yesterday, bringing the total PUI cases to 2,005 so far. Of the total, 1,548 cases were negative and 145 cases are awaiting lab results.
From the 141 new PUI cases, 100 are in Kuching, followed by Samarahan (12), Miri (10), Saratok and Bintulu – five each, Bau (3), Serian (2), while Simunjan, Sri Aman, Betong, Mukah recorded one case each.
SDMC also said that as of yesterday, the movement control order (MCO) compliance rate was at 96.5 percent.
“The police arrested 27 individuals statewide for flouting the MCO and 19 were charged in Court. From the number, 12 pleaded guilty while four were put in jail and five were fined,” it said.
The daily arrests until Wednesday consisted 27 individuals with 13 in Miri, Kuching (12), and one each in Kota Samarahan and Lundu.
Meanwhile, daily charges until Wednesday consisted 19 individuals with five in Kuching followed by Lundu and Sarikei with four each, Padawan (three), Tatau (two) and one in Bintulu.
A total of 4,148 police personnel are involved in enforcing the MCO statewide and they are assisted by 1,220 personnel from supporting agencies such as the Armed Forces (681), People’s Volunteer Corps (397), Civil Defence Force (63) and Police Volunteer Reserve Corp (79).
