SIBU: Development is the primary agenda for the Sarawak government, as emphasized by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee. He highlighted that the focus is on sustainable development, ensuring long-term viability without compromising people’s safety and security. This kind of development offers economic opportunities for individuals to prosper.

“In Sibu, we witness extensive construction activities, including roads, housing, and commercial zones.

These developments signify Sibu’s transformation into a more vibrant town, potentially evolving into one of Sarawak’s premier cities one day.”

Tiang expressed that the Sarawak government’s vision aligns with the aspirations of the people of Sibu.

He made these remarks while inaugurating the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Home & Property roadshow at Wisma Sanyan today (Aug 30).

The three-day roadshow, organized by the Sheda Sibu branch, aims to foster responsible development practices among contractors and developers. Tiang stressed the importance of creating livable, safe, and conducive environments rather than solely focusing on profits.

“Effective planning is crucial as development should cater to the needs of the community. Sibu’s infrastructure must support growth and attract investors. Quality construction standards shouldn’t be compromised.”

Tiang acknowledged the challenges posed by Sibu’s peat soil conditions but viewed them as opportunities for contractors and developers to enhance their skills. He emphasized the necessity of affordable housing to enable Sibu residents to own homes, thereby stimulating local economic growth.
Tiang expressed hope for continued collaboration between SHEDA and the government to provide affordable housing, particularly in Sibu.

In his opening address, Wong Siong Nee, Chairman of the Sheda Sibu branch, underscored Sheda’s commitment to providing a platform for informed real estate decisions. He emphasized collaboration with government agencies to stay abreast of policies and enhance the housing industry.

The roadshow aims to unite industry professionals, investors, and community members to explore real estate and development dynamics. It showcases housing projects across various regions, offering a diverse range of properties to boost the local property market.
