KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak-produced technology will be announced before the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting this month, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The DUN sitting is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 24.
Abang Johari said the technology would be announced after his working visit to London in conjunction with London Craft Week 2023.
“I will not be long in London as I have promised that I will announce in detail our new technology which will help in generating income for Sarawak.
“It will be announced before the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) sitting,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang’s Aidilfitri open house held at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre today (May 4).
The DUN sitting is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 24.
The premier said Sarawak played an important role in the London Craft Week 2023.
“Malaysia’s participation is under the patronage of Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
“Sarawak will showcase local crafts during the Craft Week,” he explained.
Abang Johari will be leading a delegation to London to show the state’s government commitment to promote Sarawak’s cultural heritage and reputation as a leading craft destination as well as the state’s crafts and cultural diversity.
Sarawakian artisans Shirley Vilin, Ros Salleh, Senia Jugi and Helena David Kalum will be given the opportunity to showcase their skills to an international audience with live demonstrations of Keringkam embroidery, Pua Kumbu weaving, handwoven craft, basketry and beadwork
Abang Johari will also lead a delegation to University of Oxford for a meeting with Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies; the meeting will be focusing on global issues that Islamic nations are currently facing.
Present at the open house celebration were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian; DUN speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Asfia Awang Nassar; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang and other distinguished guests.
